Tán

Tán is a category of waste or pathogenic substances in the body, often translated as “mucus” or “phlegm”.

Origin and nature of Tan

  • Fluid accumulation
Tán is often linked to an excessive accumulation of fluids in the body. This may be due to poor digestion, dysfunction of organs such as the spleen, or metabolic disorders.
  • Emotional and environmental factors
Stress, anxiety and damp environmental conditions can also contribute to the formation of Tán.

Types of Tán

  • Visible Tan (Visible Phlegm)
This type of Tan is observable, such as mucus in the respiratory tract, sputum, etc.
  • Invisible Tan (Invisible Phlegm)
This type of Tan is not easily visible and can manifest itself as masses (such as nodules or cysts), mental disorders (confusion, delirium), or diffuse pain throughout the body.

Impact on health

  • Respiratory tract
Tan can obstruct the lungs, causing respiratory problems such as coughing, asthma or bronchitis.
  • Qi circulation
Tan can block the circulation of Qi (vital energy), causing stagnation, pain and poor blood circulation.
  • Mental functions
Tan can also cloud the mind and affect mental clarity, causing symptoms such as confusion, anxiety and depression.
