Jing (精, pinyin:jīng) refers to “essence”, in particular the essence of the kidneys. Jīng (along with qì and shén), is one of the three treasures (三寶, pinyin: sānbǎo) of traditional Chinese medicine.
Jīng is the primordial energy, transmitted by parents at conception (prenatal jīng). Stored in the kidneys, it manifests energetically in the body’s cells and tissues.
This Jing, supplied by both parents during procreation, is limited and non-renewable. Its presence is essential to life. Our health, balance, well-being and longevity depend on this capital: its depletion leads to death!
